Application procedure for FUSION-EP scholars (OPEN)
Terms of reference
Deadline (NEW DEADLINE): January 15, 2011
Introduction
One of the Erasmus Mundus programme's objectives is to encourage and enable highly qualified graduates and scholars from all over the world to obtain qualifications and/or experience in the European Union. Therefore scholarships are granted to highly qualified third-country scholars (definition see below) to carry out teaching and research assignments and scholarly work in the institutions organising the International MSc of Nuclear Fusion Science and Engineering Physics(FUSION-EP).
The FUSION-EP consortium decided that the Erasmus Mundus scholarships for scholars will be used to allow each of the six organising institutes, being Universiteit Gent, Belgium; Université Henri Poincaré, Nancy, France;Kungliga Tekniska Högskola Stockholm, Sweden; Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain; Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain; Universidad Polytécnica de Madrid, Spain; and Universität Stuttgart, Germany to invite per year at least one non-EU country specialist in Nuclear Fusion Science.
For the academic year 2010/2011, there are 4 places for third-country scholars who will be granted a scholarship within the framework of the FUSION-EP. In the subsequent years, the FUSION-EP consortium will have 3 to 4 places for third-country scholars every year. The duration of the visit of the scholar is maximum 3 months.
Scholars can apply to the FUSION-EP consortium on their own initiative or can be invited by the FUSION-EP consortium to apply. The scholars should agree on the terms of reference stipulated by the managing board (see below). The selection of grantees is a competitive process based on the academic performance and credentials of the candidates, in order to guarantee the selection of high-quality scholars.
If they are accepted by the Managing Board of the FUSION-EP to participate, the FUSION-EP consortium has to apply to the European Commission for scholarship funds. Scholarships are paid through the FUSION-EP consortium.
Scholarship scheme:
| Amount | Type | Scholarship |
|---|---|---|
| IV | Living allowance | € 1200 / week for a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 3 months (€ 14.800) |
The selection of grantees is a competitive process based on the academic performance and credentials of the candidates, in order to guarantee the selection of high-quality scholars.
Only third- country scholars are eligible for a scholarship position within the Erasmus Mundus framework. "Third-country scholar means a national of a third country other than those from the 25 EU Member States ( Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, Sweden, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia), the EEA-EFTA states (Island, Liechtenstein and Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to the EU (presently Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey), who is not resident of any of the above mentioned countries, and who has not carried out his or her main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of those countries; and who has outstanding academic and/or professional experience."
For the academic year 2009-2010, there are 4 places for third-country scholars who will be granted a scholarship within the framework of the FUSION-EP.
Without prejudice to the respect of high academic standards, in order to ensure a geographical balance across third-country scholars, the FUSION-EP consortium has to respect the following basic criteria when selecting third-country scholars:
- Each scholar should come from a different higher education institution (but they can come from the same countries as students);
Scholars can apply to the FUSION-EP consortium on their own initiative or can be invited by the FUSION-EP consortium to apply. The scholars should agree on the terms of reference stipulated by the managing board (see below).
