Advantages for European Students
The objective of the International master in Nuclear Fusion Science and Engineering Physics is to provide a high-level multinational research-oriented education in fusion-related engineering physics, in close relation to the research activities of the partners, and with a well-integrated language and cultural experience. The combined and harmonized teaching &research of the 7 universities offers a great variety of competences in the field of fusion science and engineering physics. The Joint European Masters Programme offers a genuine European opportunity for Master level studies in a field which is of crucial importance to contribute to the solution of the ever more urgent and vital problem of world energy supply.European Students (CATEGORY B)
The FUSION-EP considers as category B:
- Nationals coming from:
the EEA-EFTA states:
| Iceland |
| Liechtenstein |
| Norway |
- People who have carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries.
Scholarships
- Amount I (Contribution to the student’s travel, installation and other personal costs) will have to be paid:
3000 EUR only in case of mobilty towards a non-European destination
- Amount II (Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs - including insurance coverage)
will be collected by the EMMC consortium directly on the condition that the student has signed a
“student agreement” with the consortium in which the amount and the costs covered by it have been clearly indicated.
- Amount III (Monthly allowance) must be paid on a monthly basis to the student’s personal bank account.
| Amount | Type | Scholarship |
|---|---|---|
| I | Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs |
€ 3000 - only if the EMMC includes a mobility period to a Third-Country partner (so NOT within Europe) |
| II | Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage) |
€ 2000 / semester or € 4000* per academic year or € 8.000 for two years. (tuition fee and insurance) |
| III | Monthly allowance | € 500 / month (on student account) (24 months) = 2 x € 6000/year |
| TOTAL |
Per academic year | From € 10 000 without mobility to a Third Country. One sum of € 3000 can be added for mobility over two years. Over two years : 2 x 10000 + 3000 = € 23.000 |
The former Action 3 of the Erasmus Mundus Program that allowed European students to go to a connected third country institute (see list of partner institutes) for their thesis research or study, for a period of maximum 3 months is replaced by Amount I
This scholarship will be maximum 3000 euro for 3 months. It could be partioned in one fix amount of 900 and 3 of 700 EUR for example.

Admission Criteria
Candidates will submit their application through a dedicated website (see 2.19). Prerequisites are a bachelor degree in engineering physics, applied physics, physics or equivalent degrees. Sufficient bachelor level knowledge in classical and modern physics is mandatory together with the necessary mathematical and computer programming skills. No difference is made between third-country students, EU students, grantees and non-grantees. Applicants from third countries (applying for a grant or not) will be subject to a well defined selection procedure aiming at high quality. They must provide as much detail as possible on their bachelor programma and its content. At least 2 letters of reference from members of the teaching staff are required. English language skills must be proved by a TOEFL test score of 550 paper-based and 213 computer-based or IELTS 6.0. A GRE test score is optional. Applications of female students will be particularly promoted. In his application, the applicant indicates an order of preference for the institute at which she/he wants to study during the first year. However, she/he clearly agrees to accept a place at any of the participating universities. Grading of the applications is performed by a dedicated board (see 2.19). For reasons of quality assurance, the total number of participants is restricted to 60.
The FUSION-EP is open to all students who have a Bachelor's degree or a recognized equivalent academic degree of minimum 3 years study in
- physics
- engineering in physics
Students with a Master degree in one of this field or an equivalent can request for a reduced programme (minimum 60 ECTS).
The FUSION-EP Managing Board decides on exemption of credits on the basis of proofs of exams passed. Exemption can be given up to 60 ECTS credits. This way you can get a second Masters degree in one year.
If you want to apply for exemption, make sure to include a full list of courses taken and credits recieved in your application.
Minimum knowledge mandatory

Admission decisions are based on a combination of factors, including academic degrees and records, the statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, test scores, language skills and relevant work experience, if any. We also consider the appropriateness of your goals to the FUSION-EP programme. In addition, consideration may be given to how your background and life experience would contribute significantly to an educationally beneficial mix of students.
